THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM at THE MILL
TWO PERFORMANCES ONLY FEBRUARY 17 and FEBRUARY 24
BOTH SHOWS ARE NOW SOLD OUT
Based on the short story by beloved writer Eudora Welty, The Robber Bridegroom is the Southern-fried Robin Hood musical tale of Jamie Lockhart (Rob Davidson), a dangerous, handsome, backwoods rogue who’s a gentleman by day and bandit by night. When he falls for the beautiful daughter of a wealthy planter, his world and code of ethics are turned upside down.
Wildly creative and deliciously entertaining, The Paramount Theatre brings the rarely-seen theatrical gem The Robber Bridegroom to the interior space of THE MILL, Abilene's wildly popular Wine Bar and Event Center. This inventive new production is filled with raucous comic performances and features an irresistibly catchy bluegrass score. The show will be staged as "immersive theatre," allowing the action to take place throught the space, totaly surrounding and incorporating the audiences into the event.
Paramount Artistic Director Barry Smoot will stage this boisterous romp through eighteenth-century Mississippi by Tony, Oscar® and Pulitzer Prize winner Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy, The Last Night of Ballyhoo) with music by Robert Waldman (The Rivals, Dinner at Eight).
An irreverent, playful and at times raunchy tribute to the con men, hucksters and charlatans that created our great nation, this hilarious tale is sure to steal your heart—and whatever else it can get its hands on. A truly thrilling celebration of American myth-making, The Robber Bridegroom is a fun, sexy, jubilant hoedown: the best party in town.
